She was a young, lovely college student when he first laid eyes on her. Gherald was a guest of an officemate Sam (husband of Salve’s cousin) in a house party in 1995 when he saw Salve attending to the needs of the other guests. And like a target hit by cupid’s arrow…he fell for Salve.

Salve didn’t like Gherlad then. To her, he looks mayabang (proud) and overconfident. When Gherald asked Sam to be introduced to Salve, the lady declined.

Year 1998, after working for her first job for more than a year (Salve graduated in 1997), Salve applied for a position in the company where both Sam and Gherald works for. Eventually she was hired and Gherald’s quest to win her lady’s heart began.

Having a reputation of being a babaero didn’t work to Gheralds advantage. Salve was mindful of Gherald’s image and found it a major turn-off. But over time our dashing Romeo proved them wrong. He was very persistent in courting Juliet, slipping small love notes in Salve’s drawer and bag, leaving gifts on her table…without Salve knowing from whom they all came from. Gherald wakes up at 3am to fetch Salve. He arrives at Salve’s house at 4am and sleeps in the car while waiting. He was insistent in asking Salve to eat out after work but Salve told him that she would only go out with him when they are already in a relationship. December of 1998, Gherald accidentally admitted that the notes and gifts came from him. He spent Christmas Eve with Salve in Sam’s house in Cavite…and come year 1999, the story became even more exciting.

March of 1999, while driving along the rush hour street of Edsa, Gherald asked Salve to be his girlfriend. As they approached the Cubao underpass…Salve gave her most awaited “YES”. Gherald was astonished! He stepped on the brakes and the world stopped revolving for a minute. He only came back to his senses when he heard the other cars behind him honking. They celebrated that memorable day by having dinner together…the very first time Salve went out with Gherald on a date. And apparently, it was the first time Salve went out on a date…for Gherald was her first boyfriend.

In September of 2002, Gherald proposed marriage to Salve while they were on a boat in Burnham Park, Baguio City. Nervous, but definitely sure about her feelings, Salve accepted the proposal.

The Filipino saying “walang matimtimang birhen sa binatang matiyagang manalangin” holds true to our dear Gherald and Salve’s love story. Let us all bear witness to it’s wonderful climax as our beloved friends tie the knot on December 18, 2003.
